OHMS PTSA Meeting Minutes—May 9, 2019

Luncheon by Café Zupa (Thank you to Rebecca for arranging it!)

Treasurer’s Report and Budget – Amy Powell

·         Budget/balance—passed around the monthly review; balance $5,838.06

·         Reimbursements—please cash checks before June 1^st.

·         AFR –Helen Young, Brittany Maxfield, and Andrea Banks

·         School Gift—We have $1500 to grant to OHMS two ideas: an ice cream machine or outdoor benches by the main doors for students to use while waiting for parents…

PTSA – Andrea Hogan

·         Field Day—on Tuesday, May 28^th $700 budget

·         Popcorn—Beth & 4 PTSA students at a time/School has supplies

·         Snow Cones—4 machines (OHMS has one, and rent three others) Jill Smith will help with flavors for snow cones and buying cups(?) Emily Butler will buy ice from Costco that morning for the snow cones. Both she and the school have coolers.

·         Volunteers—12 parents to help with the snow cones—Denise will make sign-up

·         Games—

·         Dunk Tank—

·         Toilet Races???? $300

President's Report –

·         Approve April Minutes—motion Brittany, 2^nd Amy; approved

·         Thank You’s to everyone for all their hard work!!!

·         Welcome to new board members

Principal’s Report – Terry Price

·         Gave out OHMS keychains

·         Projected enrollment 1350 students/need 3 more portables

·         Tardy Sweeps are working and helping students to get to class on time

·         Serious concerns about VAPING…

o   Using in the bathrooms, but students hide the evidence in their underclothing

o   One vape cartridge is like smoking 21 cigarettes

o   Sometimes there is THC in the cartridge

o   Hard to detect as it smells like various flavors including cotton candy

o   Target it for Red Ribbon Week

o   Waiting for District Information/Policy

Schedule for Last Week of School:

·         Monday (May 27^th) – Labor Day – No School

·         Tuesday (May 28^th)– Field Day

·         Wednesday (May 29^th)– Yearbooks / Award Assembly

·         Thursday (May 30^th) – Lagoon Day

·         Friday (May 31^st) – Last Day/Moving Day for teachers changing classrooms

Counseling Center – Mr. Cherry

·         Approved for a ½ counselor, but thinks they will get another ½ counselor for a total of 4

·         9^th Grade PCCR’s are done

·         9^th Arena Scheduling is done

·         State Testing is done!!!

·         Cell Phone policy is none out in class/three strikes and you’re out

·         Do we need a cell phone aide?

·         Schedule “Fight the New Drug Assembly”—Have Jill Smith use her negotiating powers

Other business:  We need someone for the Middle School Parent Literacy Selection Committee.

Eagle of the Quarter: Emily Stout—May 14, 15, & 16—on track and on budget!!!

Assignments: Volunteer Spot for Yearbook Distribution and Field Day. (Denise Heninger)

New Business: Memory Book is done—yay!!! Beth says, “It’ll be fine!”

OHMS PTSA – Meeting Minutes

October 4, 2018

Meeting commenced at: 12:02 PM

Pledge/Thought:  Maxine Conrad—minute of silence for Kaiden Cherrington; shared ideas on how to remember her in the memory book.

Attendance: Mike Glenn, Denise Heninger, Maxine Conrad, Rebecca Van Skyhawk, Jill Smith, Tressa Spigarelli, Andrea Hogan, Emily Stout, Beth Kunz, and Steve Cherry

Treasurer’s Report and Budget – Amy Powell (Excused) Put labeled receipts in an envelope and put them in the PTSA mailbox.

PTSA – Andrea Hogan—7^th grade PTSA student representatives chosen; Blue/White Ribbon went well.

President's Report – Maxine Conrad

·         Council Meeting/Luncheon—Beth did an amazing job organizing the luncheon.

·         Approve September Minutes—Beth motioned and Tressa 2^nd; all approved

·         Need to continue recruiting for new members

·         Discussed the boundary changes and impact on OHMS student population

·         Record volunteer hours

PTC Dinners – Oct 3 & 4 – Jill Smith/Brittany Maxfield: Dinners went well; discussed the gluten-free/vegetarian concerns

Book Fair – Tressa Spigarelli: Things are going well; Language Arts classes came down for a preview.

Reflections – Due on Oct 16^th - Denise Heninger: Posters around the school/packets in the office.

Eagle of the Quarter—Emily Stout will be on October 29^th, 30^th, and 31^st.

Principal’s Report—Mike Glenn

·         Our OHMS theme is “be.” He handed out pins and asked us to fill in the blank.

·         What do we want to be?

·         Oquirrh Fest/Rush—still wants to do a serv-a-thon but trying to figure out logistics.

·         SOAR Store will be open every other Friday; can use SOAR Bucks

·         The PTSA makes a difference in our school

Counseling Center—Steve Cherry

·         Reality Town – will need 50 volunteers need a Sign-up Spot

·         First session 8:15 to 9:45

·         Second session 10:00 to 11:15

·         TCR’s start 11-5-18 and go through the end of January

·         Experienced the highest growth in SAGE testing this past year

New Business: Should we have a bench to commemorate the students we have lost? Concerns about suicide.
