PTA Day at the Capitol: Rebecca Van Skyhawk—Thursday, February 21

PTSA and SBO students will attend with Rebecca, Beth, Ms. Hogan, Mrs. Broadhead, Mrs. Hunter, and Mr. Cherry as chaperones. Bus will leave @ 8:30 and return @ 2:30. Meet with representatives, tour capital, meet Lt. Gov, tour City/County Building. $10 per student for lunch will be provided by the PTSA.

Memory Book: Beth Kunz—Book is coming along. Table at PTC to have parents check for book purchase.

Principal’s Report: Donna Hunter—OHMS is a good fit for her, and she is very happy to be here.

Natalie Terry is the new head secretary. There will be teacher changes, but Mrs. Hunter is working to fill all positions for 2019-2020.

Counseling Center: Steve Cherry

·         Career Day—March 7^th 40 careers represented 2—30” presentations Job shadow for 7^th graders.

·         9^th Grade walking Field Trip to RHS—Thursday February 14^th (Needs sign up 12 parents/2 times)

Treasurer’s Report: Amy Powell—We’re on track with our budget. November balance: $17,343.17 and December balance: $16,283.82

PTSA: Andrea Hogan—Expressed her thanks to all the volunteers who helped with Oquirrh Fest. Red Ribbon Week will be Jan 22-25. The theme is “Never been cool to do drugs”. Will have activities to reflect different decades.

Book Fair: Tressa Spigarelli—February 11-13, 2019. Would like to set up on Thursday, February 7^th, and have a teacher preview on February 8^th. Needs signage to reflect that we are now required to charge sales tax on student purchases. Also, Scholastic wants to connect its router to the OHMS internet directly. That might cause issues with firewall protection and kick Scholastic out. Tressa will try to coordinate between Scholastic and Jordan School District Tech people.

They will coordinate their efforts and serve up two tasty dinners—February 12 & 13.

Red Ribbon Week is Jan 22 – 25 Wendy Osborn is in charge. Things are on track.

Reflections: Denise The Region 6 Awards Night is January 16, 2019 at 6:30 PM @ RHS

Eagle of the Quarter: Emily Stout—There has been concern over how the pictures of the honorees have turned out. Discussed greater lighting to enhance pictures, and asking parents to wait while the official picture is taken. Will be held on January 15^th, 16^th, and 17^th.

PTA Day at the Capitol: Rebecca Van Skyhawk—Tentative date is February 21^st. Discussed having the PTSA and SBO students attend. Talk to Mrs. Fish to request a bus. Discussed touring the City/County Building in lieu of the Governor’s Mansion. Whatever isn’t covered by the PTSA budgeted amount for that day will come out of the school’s general fund.

  

Principal’s Report: Mike Glenn

·         New Assignment—He has been appointed principal to the new middle school in Daybreak.

·         SNAP Plan—The deadline has been extended to March to accommodate the new  boundaries.

·         New OHMS Principal is Donna Hunter coming from West Jordan High School.

·         Discussed needed changes to the existing school to accommodate more students.

Counseling Center: Steve Cherry

·         Career Day is March 7^th. Next week students will choose the careers they want to learn about.

·         February 14^th the 9^th Grade students will take a walking field trip to RHS for CTE tour.

·         Will need parent volunteers to help with the two sessions of the Field Trip.

·         Registration is coming soon. Current count is 1337—Could go over 1400 with ALPS students.

Other business:  JetBlue Travel Certificates from Jill. Drawing for winners. Will print out list of PTSA members as of January 11, 2019.

New Business: Memory Book is coming along slowly. Discussed adding a page for twins, a page for Kaiden Cherrington, and how to do the administration page with the change in Principals.

December 6, 2018

Meeting commenced at: 11:52 PM

Attendance: Maxine Conrad, Mike Glenn, Denise Heninger, Rebecca Van Skyhawk, Andrea Hogan, Steve Cherry, Jill Smith, Emily Stout, and Cheryl Anderson

Excused: Amy Powell

Treasurer’s Report: Amy Powell (Denise Heninger)

Balance is currently close to $25,000. However, after the PTSA dues, Scholastic Book Fair payment, Memory book deposit, and a few miscellaneous expenses are paid, the balance will be around $15,500.

PTSA: Andrea Hogan

PTSA Students received their sweatshirts. The PTSA portion was $200 total. Each student had to pay $11.50 each. Students are selling suckers and hair scrunchies for Oquirrh Fest. If they want to sell them in front of Peterson’s Fresh Market while the SBO students are caroling, they need to contact Brandon Peterson. If there are leftover suckers, the Soar Store will buy them at cost.

Legislative Report: Rebecca Van Skyhawk

Planning Legislative Day at the Capitol for February. Will include the PTSA, SBO, and SOAR Students. Is researching dates and itineraries and will report in January.

President's Report – Maxine Conrad

·         Approval of November 2018 Minutes: Denise 1^st; Jill 2^nd--Approved

·         Volunteers for Oquirrh Fest: Need volunteers in the morning and at both lunches—Passed around sign-up sheet.

·         Membership Drive/Contest: Deadline January 11, 2019 for PTSA Membership—Mr. Glenn will put a notice on a Skylert message. Jill will procure the necessary JetBlue tickets.

·         Nominating Committee: Rebecca Van Skyhawk, Brittany Maxfield, and Emily Stout. Alternate: Amy Powell.

·         Awards Breakfast—went well had a little mix-up but worked it out.

·         The “Principal’s Award” did two of them, but could do more if we have more entries

·         Council Awards for Reflections: January 3, 2019

Principal’s Report: Mike Glenn

·         Oquirrh Fest is benefitting:

o   Gordman’s giving program $2500

o   Riverton Heroes Sub for Santa $2500

o   The remainder will go to the Lymphoma/Leukemia Association for research and to help families with outstanding medical bills.

·         The students learn that giving a little can help in big ways.

Counseling Center: Steve Cherry

·         Reality Town went well.

·         The 8^th grade meetings to plan for high school are almost finished.

·         Will meet with any 9^th grader who has a “D” or “F” on midterms.

·         Utah Scholars will be handled by the OHMS Counseling Team.

·         Rah Rah and 7^th grade registration for January 24, 2019.

·         New parent/student orientation for 8^th and 9^th graders coming from other schools due to the boundary changes will be held on January 31, 2019.

·         9th graders walk to RHS on February 14, 2019 to tour CTE Programs.

·         Career Day will be on March 7, 2019. Will poll students to decide which careers to highlight.

·         7^th Grade will have Job Shadow that day; 8^th grade College visits? 9^th grade career presentations.

·         Budget—Everything looks good so far, and is under budget

·         Balance—October 1, 2018: $16,901.75

·         Oquirrh Fest Volunteers—supervise cash boxes before school and during lunches.

Made $2900 in sales; received $1400 back in Scholastic dollars which were used by teachers to purchase books for their classrooms.

·         8^th Grade individual meetings/PCCR’s/4-year plan can now be accessed on Skyward

·         Only 86 total F’s in 1^st Quarter/down from other years.
